I read that, when 20th Century Fox was initially getting ready to finance Land of the Dead, they kept asking George Romero to call it "Night of the Living Dead." Romero refused, arguing that people would think it was a remake. So the studio said to give it a subtitle, maybe "Night of the Living Dead: Dead Reckoning" ("Dead Reckoning" having been the screenplay's working title). Eventually, Romero realized all they were trying to do was get the rights to Night of the Living Dead, which is currently public domain and makes no money for Romero (hence its being on hulu for free, and I think youtube as well). Romero ditched Fox and went with Universal.
